OFFICER DOWN  Updated 11/09/09

Officer Pedro Medina assigned to the 014th District was deployed to Afghanistan. Officer Medina was inside of a building and seriously injured when a helicopter crashed into the building causing it to collapse. Pete is now at a Veteran's Hospital in Tampa, FL. He was initially admitted as a paraplegic. He is now undergoing extensive physical therapy six days a week where he is making progress. He is now able to walk slowly with the help of a cane.

OFFICER IN NEED  10/20/09

On September 29, 2009, Officer Patrick Colleran of the Winnetka Police Department suffered a tragic loss with the unexpected passing of his beloved wife Aileen. Patrick has been a dedicated member of the Police Department for over twenty years. He has been an active supporter and executive officer of several fraternal and charitable organizations. He is presently Secretary of the Winnetka Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 76. Aileen was a pillar of support that afforded Patrick the opportunity to pursue his passion of being a Police Officer and serve the community. Aileen was a registered nurse and shared Patrick’s passion for helping others. Patrick and Aileen are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters aged 10, 12 and 15. $10,000 REWARD

The Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge No. 7 is offering a $10,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the murderer of Detective Robert Soto.

Early Wednesday morning, Detective Robert Soto was parked in a vehicle on a quiet residential street on Chicago’s near north side.  Detective Soto and his passenger were shot multiple times, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and Detective Soto succumbed to his wounds early this morning.

Area 4 Detectives are working leads in the case and studying video tapes in the hopes of identifying the killer or killers.  Anyone with information which may lead to the arrest and conviction of the killer is asked to contact Area 4 Detectives Bor or Jacobson at 312-746-8252.

RICHARD M. FRANCIS MEMORIAL BENEFIT FUND

On Wednesday, 2 July 2008, Police Officer Richard M. Francis, of the 019th District, was on routine patrol when he responded to a disturbance on a bus. Officer Francis encountered an irate person. During a struggle with this subject, Officer Francis was shot and killed.

One of the most frequently asked questions by FOP members is, "What should my surviving spouse/family do in the event of my death?" The Lodge #7 Survivor Handbook has been designed with this question in mind. Members should download, complete, and discuss the contents with potential survivors.
