The Chicago Police Marines had an outstanding time at
the Veterans' Home in Manteno on May 7, 2005. A check
was presented for $6,000 and we planned a cookout with
the residents. The veterans were so happy to be able to
visit, get a Chicago Police Marines' hat, and have a
beer with their hamburger or hot dog. It was an
outstanding feeling to see them with a can of Miller
Lite or MGD and smiling as they visited with all of
us. We had an opportunity to see the two family bedrooms
that were furnished and decorated by our donation from
last year. These rooms are used by family members that
have a loved one who is about to report to the Supreme
Commandant.
The cookout was a complete hit with the residents and
can only be improved upon by having more members in
attendance. We have already scheduled a cookout with
the veterans on May 6, 2006. Mark it on your calendar!
