OFFICER IN NEED  10/20/09

On September 29, 2009, Officer Patrick Colleran of the Winnetka Police Department suffered a tragic loss with the unexpected passing of his beloved wife Aileen. Patrick has been a dedicated member of the Police Department for over twenty years. He has been an active supporter and executive officer of several fraternal and charitable organizations. He is presently Secretary of the Winnetka Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 76. Aileen was a pillar of support that afforded Patrick the opportunity to pursue his passion of being a Police Officer and serve the community. Aileen was a registered nurse and shared Patrick’s passion for helping others. Patrick and Aileen are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters aged 10, 12 and 15. Donations for the children may be made to the Aileen Colleran Scholarship Fund, c/o New Trier F.C.U., 642 Green Bay Rd., Kenilworth, IL 60043.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE  10/16/09

The Lodge has been working to modify the current 6-on 2-off work schedule for at least fifteen years. That goal was finally accomplished today when the Contract Negotiations Team unanimously recommended that the full Board of Directors vote to accept an agreement that will implement a 4-on 2-off work schedule in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 beginning the first period of 2010. Areas 1, 3, 4, and 5 will also participate in this schedule. The full Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept the Negotiations Team’s recommendation.

This schedule has been piloted in the 014th and 018th Districts for the past ten and one-half months. All details, including sample rotations, regarding this schedule can be found on the FOP website under the Current Contract tab on the left side of the page.

The 005th and 020th Districts will continue to work the Ten-Hour Rotating Schedule in 2010.

The 008th and 013th Districts will continue to work the 6-on 3-off Schedule.

Area 2 will continue to work the Ten-Hour Rotating Schedule in 2010.

All Special Functions Units that participated in any 2009 pilot work schedule will continue to work that schedule in 2010.

It should be noted that all desk, lockup, and watch relief positions will be included in all of these work schedules in 2010.

FTO UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE  10/12/09

The Lodge completed the hearing portion of the Unfair Labor Practice on Thursday, October 8, 2009. The ULP was filed when the Department reduced the number of training districts down to six. The Department acknowledged that up to fifty FTOs resigned from the program immediately after the new training districts were implemented.

Closing briefs will be filed within forty-five days and the Lodge will await the decision of the Administrative Law Judge that heard the case. The Lodge is seeking to have the Judge rule that the Department acted improperly and return the FTO program  to the original training districts that were in place prior to the change. The Lodge is also seeking to have the FTOs that resigned due to the changes reinstated to their FTO positions and receive the benefits that they would have been entitled to.

VETERAN'S FLU SHOTS  10/12/09

FREE FLU SHOTS for all Military Veterans – Veterans Health Fair at FOP Hall on Wednesday, October 28, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Staff from the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center will be available to provide Flu Shots and Cholesterol, Glucose and Blood Pressure screenings. Veterans must have VA Health Care ID or verification of military service. This will also be an opportunity for veterans to enroll for VA services.  Representatives from Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) will be present and provide assistance regarding other veteran benefits.

ACTIVE AND RETIRED FLU SHOTS  10/12/09

The Lodge will be distributing free flu shots on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 0800 to 1700 hrs.  As of today, we are uncertain if the H1N1 virus will be available to “first responders” on that date. We will definitely be distributing the annual flu vaccine, and we have requested the H1N1 inoculations, but we will be distributing in compliance with the, then current, CDC recommendations. H1N1 will most likely be distributed as a second vaccine and healthy adults will be able to get both vaccines at once. Adult dependents can receive the vaccine for a cost of $12.00 payable by cash or check.
