John Dineen
John Dineen, Ret. CPD, born on July 4, 1936, on the West Side of Chicago to the late Tom and Dorothy Dineen, passed away on March 25, 2026.
Beloved husband of Marilyn Dineen (nee Callahan) for 68 years. Loving father to Karen (John) Kissane, Susan Dineen, Cindy (Norb) Sliwa, John Michael Dineen, and Timothy (Ret. CPD) (Sue) Dineen. Adored grandfather to AJ (CPD), Jonathan, Beth, Dave, Kyle, Kevin, Megan, Rose, Maggie, and Maddie, and great-grandfather to 11. Fond brother of Tom (the late Jean) and Patricia Hennessy, and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
John was a proud St. Mel’s alumnus, Army veteran, and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as a longtime member of the Chicago Police Department and as President of the Fraternal Order of Police for over twenty years, including a two-year term as National FOP President. His leadership played a vital role in advancing labor rights and securing lasting protections for officers.

His efforts helped establish and secure those rights through the Illinois Labor Relations Act of 1983, leaving a lasting legacy of service and leadership.
Above all, John cherished time spent with his family and friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers for their compassion and support.
Wake services will be held Sunday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Funeral services will take place Monday, March 30 at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Juliana Catholic Church in Chicago.
