Michael T. Sullivan – retired Chicago Police Department – 77, passed away on September 20, 2024.
Michael was born in Chicago in 1946. Dear brother of Diane Sullivan and Stephen Sullivan, uncle to Shannon Coder (nee Markunas, Ricky Coder). Great uncle to Dominic. He resided in LeHigh Acres, Florida since 2004 with his cherished wife of 43 years, Christine Saliga Sullivan, who precedes him in death.
Michael was loved by his family and many friends across the country and was a deeply committed public servant who served his community through his professional and volunteer work. He served in the U.S. Army and as an officer with the Chicago Police Department for many years, working at the 009th District in the city’s Bridgeport neighborhood. During his time with the Department, he helped mentor and train many officers who also went on to serve Chicago’s neighborhoods. Mike was an active member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers and could be found many Sundays serving as a Eucharistic minister at the parish or at a nearby hospital through the church’s hospital ministry. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 13624. Mike was a proud supporter of first responders and veterans and was instrumental in coordinating his parish’s annual commemorations of September 11th, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day. In recent years, he continued to enjoy a favorite hobby that he and Chris shared for many years: traveling often and returning home with new stories and new friends made along the way.
