Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition petition drive to oppose several pieces of extreme policing and criminal justice legislation surpasses 100,000 signatures
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition, a group representing Illinois law enforcement leadership and rank-and-file officers, announced today that an online petition drive to oppose HB163 SA2, HB3653 SA1, and associated extreme policing and criminal justice legislation has surpassed 100,000 signatures.
HB0841 is also a bad bill on Police Certification . Call your State officials and voice your opinions!!!
The petition, which is posted at https://www.ilfop.org/stop-bill-hb-163/, was started the evening of January 8 as the Illinois General Assembly was getting ready to debate HB 163 as amended, which was the original bill designation. The petition drive has a 150,000 signature goal.
The following is a statement issued by the Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition:
“Thank you to the more than 100,000 citizens who have helped us to take a stand to protect our communities. Your monumental support is sending a clear message that continued police protection, and not politics, needs to be the focus of the Illinois General Assembly. But the fight is far from over, so we encourage anyone who values community safety to join us by signing this online petition.”
The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge, FOP Labor Council, FOP Chicago Lodge 7, Illinois Sheriffs’ Association and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police have formed the Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition and have been working on these strategies since summer to improve community safety and enhance the trust between community members and law enforcement.
