Since last evening when we contacted the reporter from the Chicago Tribune who was responsible for releasing the name and photograph of one of our Officers, we have been attempting to determine how the Officer was identified. The reporter stated that his bosses wanted the photograph that the paper had on file used with the article, but no information was shared as to how the Officer was identified.

Throughout the day we also called the Department to give them an opportunity to chime in on the publishing of the name and photograph of one of our bargaining unit members. We felt it was critical that we remind the Department that to our knowledge, the Officer had not been brought up on any charges, let alone been convicted of a crime or been the subject of a decision issued by the Police Board; as delineated in our Contract (Sections 6.4 and 6.9).

As of the release of this information, no answer to our concerns has been supplied. The Lodge will continue to enforce the terms of its Agreement, especially with an inappropriate release of this nature.

On an unrelated issue, we have some positive Positive Breaking News; Arbitrator Roumell issued his decision late this afternoon in favor of the Lodge in the CR File Destruction Grievance. We wish to publicly thank two of our Labor Attorneys: Brian C. Hlavin and Patrick N. Ryan from Baum Sigman Auerbach & Neuman for all of their hard work and efforts on a case that should have been adjudicated years before now.

As issues continue to develop, we will continue keep the Membership advised.
